Byzantine Music Pop-Up Concert, Met Museum of Art

Mr. Eleftheriadis is Axion Estin Foundation's inaugural Artist in Residence, and is highly regarded as the Protopsaltis of St. Nicholas Shrine Church in Flushing, NY. He previously served on the faculty of the Music School of Thessaloniki, Greece. The course is open to seminarians and the general public, and will be held Tuesday evenings, beginning February 3, 2015, on the seminary campus. Beginners Class will meet from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Advanced Class will meet from 8:10 p.m. to 9:25 p.m.

Russian Scholar to Lecture on Musical Instruments of the Bible

Crestwood Historical Society to Host Lecture on Orthodox Liturgical Music

The Crestwood Historical Society has invited our seminary Chapel Choir Director, Hierodeacon Philip (Majkrzak), to present a lecture about Orthodox Christian liturgical music on Saturday, September 25th, in the Metropolitan Philip Auditorium of the John G. Rangos Building on our campus. HDn. Philip, who says that liturgical music has been "since childhood, one of my greatest joys," is eager to share the beauty of the liturgical services with members of the society and any guests wishing to attend the free and public lecture. Refreshments will be served at 10 a.m.; HDn. Philip will begin his lecture, titled "An Introduction to Orthodox Christian Liturgical Music," at 10:30 a.m.

Patriarch John X to Speak about Christians in Middle East

Hatrak)|link=none|align=left|width=400|height=266] The Most Blessed John X (Yazigi), Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East , will be visiting St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary on Monday, July 27, 2015, to receive an honorary doctoral degree conferred by the seminary Board of Trustees and Faculty Council. The degree will be awarded at a public academic convocation at 6:00 p.m. in the Metropolitan Philip Auditorium of the John G. Rangos Family Building, during which His Beatitude will also give a presentation about the current circumstances of Christians in the Middle East. A public reception will follow.

The seminary’s annual open house and fall festival will celebrate the relationship between the Oriental and Eastern Orthodox churches, and explore the history of their dialogue.

Take a Class! Four Evening Courses Open to Public in Fall

St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary will offer four courses to the general public starting in September 2015, giving non-degree students opportunities to increase their knowledge about the Orthodox Christian faith. The classes, to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, require no prior coursework at the seminary and will cover: religious themes in film, liturgical space and practice, an exploration of the Book of Genesis , and spiritual life. Courses will begin September 1 and 2, and will run for ten weeks; courses may be audited or taken for one academic credit. Patriarch Irinej of Serbia to Deliver Address

Patriarch Irinej will also deliver a presentation titled " Theology as a Hope for the Future of the Church."
