The deadline for submission of papers is Friday, August 31, 2012. Our Dean, Archpriest John Behr, will be the Florovsky Lecturer for this year, with a presentation entitled “Reading the Fathers Today.” Father John will discuss the meaning of theology and its study within an academic context. The lecture will be held in the Metropolitan Philip Auditorium of the John G. Rangos Family Building, on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. A public reception will follow. [img_assist|nid=880|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=200|height=133]On the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, September 14, 2010, St. Vladimir’s Seminary will bestow the degree of Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa on Professor Christos Yannaras, a leading Greek Orthodox ethicist. Professor Yannaras has authored more than a dozen books on ethics, theology, and modern religious philosophy, including one by St. Vladimir’s Seminary Press titled The Freedom of Morality. At the academic convocation, during which the honorary degree will be bestowed, Professor Yannaras will present a free and public lecture, “The Trinity and Freedom,” and an open reception will follow. Please join us for this event, beginning with Vespers in Three Hierarchs Chapel at 6 p.m. The convocation will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Metropolitan Philip Auditorium of the John G. Rangos Family Building.

The dinner will include main courses of "arroz con pollo" (chicken) and "pernil" (pork) cooked up by our own Rafael Rivera, a native of the Dominican Republic and the ever smiling and effervescent Plant Manager at the seminary.
8 May 2012 • Off-campus Event [img_assist|nid=9649|title=|desc=Trdat the Architect, from Armenia, was responsible for reconstructing the dome of the famed Hagia Sophia, following a massive earthquate in AD 989.|link=none|align=left|width=300|height=200]Professor Richard Schneider, visiting professor of Liturgical Arts at St. Vladimir's, will deliver a free and public lecture titled "Armenian Architecture: Local Culture or World Architecture?" on Tuesday, May 8th at 7:30 p.m. at nearby St. Nersess Armenian Seminary, 150 Stratton Road, New Rochelle, New York. Professor Schneider will discuss whether Armenian church architecture typified the building style of a regional single culture or many cultures (e.g., Armenian, Byzantine, Syrian), all of which led to the development of the "Middle Byzantine" design that today is thought to characterize the "model" Orthodox church building.

Lewis, and currently the founding priest of St. Katherine of Alexandria Orthodox Mission in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California. Father Andrew will be speaking about "Christian Themes in C.S. Lewis."
His Grace The Rt. Rev. Alexander [Golitzin], bishop of Toledo and the Bulgarian Diocese of the Orthodox Church in America and an alumnus of St. Vladimir's Seminary, will deliver the commencement address to the Class of 2012. Commencement exercises will start at 2 p.m., beginning with a Prayer of Supplication in Three Hierarchs Chapel, and then the graduating class, with faculty, will process to the John G. Rangos Family Building at 2:30 p.m., for the commencement address and distribution of diplomas.
