Free Seminar: "Spiritual Issues in Suffering and Palliative Care"

To help our seminarians, neighboring clergy, health professionals, and friends better understand how to approach and manage human suffering, St. Vladimir's Seminary will offer a free seminar Friday, October 21, from 9:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., titled "Spiritual Issues in Suffering and Palliative Care."

First Annual "Missions Day" Features Atheist Rocker Turned Dynamic Christian Missionary

Public Lecture "Our speaker for the first annual 'Missions Day' on our campus is someone you will not want to miss," enthuses Chancellor/CEO Archpriest Chad Hatfield. The Right Rev. Dr. Archimandrite Themistocles, member of the Alexandrian Orthodox Patriarchate, indeed had a vibrant ministry and mission in Nairobi, Kenya, and now is in Sierra Leone. In both settings, "Father Themi," as he is known, ministered to the poor by providing educational and employment opportunities.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: "The Legacy of Fr. John Meyendorff (1926-1992)"

The conference theme is "The Legacy of Father John Meyendorff, Scholar and Churchman (1926–1992)." Father John served as dean of St. Vladimir's Seminary from 1984 to 1992, and[img_assist|nid=7909|title=|desc=Dr. Paul Meyendorff is slated to speak at the conference.|link=none|align=right|width=113|height=169] as professor of Church History here from 1959 to 1992; he also taught at the St. Sergius Institute, prior to coming to the United Sates.

29th FR. ALEXANDER SCHMEMANN MEMORIAL LECTURE: Dr. Margaret Barker

Family Rangos Building on our campus.

Cappella Romana to Sing Great Vespers and Divine Liturgy in Seminary Chapel

The famed vocal chamber ensemble Cappella Romana will sing the responses during Great Vespers and Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Archangels in our Three Hierarchs Chapel. We warmly welcome our friends and neighbors to celebrate with us and to hear the solemn beauty of this choral group, which travels throughout the world. Great Vespers will be celebrated at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 7; Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8.

Our Fall 2011 Open House will provide those contemplating ministry or a deeper study of the Orthodox faith with first-hand experience of seminary life. Participants will attend classes, worship in the chapel, tour the campus and its resources, and meet faculty members and seminarians. Detailed information on the Seminary's various degree programs, financial aid, and admissions process also will be provided. Additionally, prospective students will have the pleasure of sharing our Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Day meal.

We will be selling everything from household items to sports items to furniture and clothing. Proceeds from the sale, which will be held in the Kunett Auditorium (basement) under Three Hierarchs Chapel, will benefit children's activities on campus, including our children's choir. Please stop by and search for your "treasure" amid the multitude of goods that we will be selling. Or, simply come to browse and buy a cup of coffee to benefit our campus kids.

St. Vladimir's Men's Choir to Sing Liturgy at Annunciation Church, Brick, NJ

They will begin parish visitations by singing at the Orthodox Christian Church of the Annunciation , in Brick, New Jersey, where Archpriest Gary Breton is rector. The choir will sing at the Divine Liturgy, which begins at 10 a.m., and then will offer a few musical selections at the coffee hour following the service. Archpriest Chad Hatfield, chancellor/CEO at St. Vladimir's, will accompany the choir, and Dn. Gregory Hatrak, marketing manager for SVS Bookstore, will have books and other items for sale at the coffee hour. The Men's Choir is comprised of the following:
