Dr Byrne-Martelli is an Orthodox Christian board-certified chaplain and bereavement counselor. She is endorsed by the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America, and has served as a chaplain in Acute Care and Hospice since 2002. She is the Senior Palliative Care Chaplain for the Massachusetts General Hospital Division of Palliative Care and Geriatric Medicine. Sarah received a Bachelor of Arts from Haverford College, a Master of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School, and a Doctor of Ministry from St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary. She serves on the Executive Board of the Orthodox Christian Association of Medicine, Psychology, and Religion. She is a 2022 Cambia Sojourns Scholar Award recipient and devotes half of her time to spiritual care research and interprofessional Palliative Care leadership.
