With faith in Christ and hope in the Resurrection, we share the news of the repose of the Rev. Dr George Koshy. Fr George fell asleep in the Lord on January 1, following a long battle with ALS.

Fr George received a Master of Theology from St Vladimir’s Seminary in 1983, and a Doctor of Ministry in 2002. His parish, St George Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church in Portchester, NY, was a spiritual home for many Malankara seminarians during their studies at SVOTS, among whom he was beloved. Many Malankara seminarians often went to his house, only a walking distance from the seminary, to learn from him. He spoke often of his fondness for Frs Schmemann and Meyendorff, saying they turned everything he thought he had known about Orthodoxy upside down.

Fr George is the author of The Wedding in Cana: The Power and Purpose of the First Sign of Jesus Christ, originally published by SVS Press in 2017, and penned a number of other works, both in English as well as in Malayalam.

His son, Fr Givargis (Abu) Koshy is also a graduate of St Vladimir’s Seminary.

The burial will take place on Monday, January 13 at St George Malankara Orthodox Church, 360 Irving Ave, Portchester, NY at 8:30 a.m.

May the memory of Fr George Koshy be eternal!
