Orthodox Education Day 2010, "Many Cultures, One Faith," drew faithful friends and curious neighbors to our campus for a multi-cultural immersion experience and holy pilgrimage on Saturday, October 2nd. The Akathist to the replica of the famous Pochaev Icon—received from Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, New York—provided the focal point for the day. The Akathist was celebrated by Metropolitan Jonah, Primate of the Orthdodox Church in America and President of our Board of Trustees, with His Grace Jerome, of Manhattan, Vicar Bishop of the Diocese of Eastern America and New York and Deputy Secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Among our distinguished visitors was His Eminence Elias Audi, Metropolitan of Beirut and alumnus of the Seminary.
hes. The sights, sounds, aromas, and handiwork of many lands filled the billowing white tents and exhibition hallways on campus. Speaker Archpriest Michael Oleksa captivated the crowd with his keynote address on "Orthodox Culture and Cultures," and the exquisite icon and artifact exhibit from Antiochian Heritage Museum mesmerized festival goers. Dance and music groups, from the "Caucasian Swords" to the "Golder Roosters," electrified the audience that thronged the main tent, while The Boston Byzantine Choir, The Spirit of Orthodoxy Choir, and St. Nino's Georgian Orthodox Choir provided a sober, prayerful atmosphere in the chapel, which housed the Pochaev Icon throughout the day.
St. Vladimir's Seminary thanks all our friends, neighbors, and brothers and sisters in the faith who attended our special day.
